Executive Director Arnold Zar-Kessler served 14 years as Head of School for Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Boston, an independent K-8 school. In his tenure at the school, its facilities, program and financial stability all reached higher levels of strength and excellence. His focus was on building a professional learning community, holding the school to highest levels of accountability, and forging new ground in technology and religious education.
He has also served as chair of accreditation and strategic planning committees for the Association of Independent Schools in New England. Before becoming head of school, Arnie developed and administered a region-wide math and science professional development program for teachers from 22 school districts in Northwest Massachusetts, as well as a classroom high school science teacher.
Arnie has deep passion for helping close the achievement gap. Two of his daughters are Teach for America alumnae and introduced him to the world of education reform. Arnie has completed doctoral work at the Education School at Harvard University.
